Our Streamlined Divorce Filing Process:
At Harold Shepley & Associates, LLC, we start by scheduling you an initial consultation with our family law attorney. We will listen to you and advise you of your rights. We charge a minimal consultation fee, payable at the time of the consult, and have affordable retainer fees that vary on a case by case basis. After your consultation we will send you a fee agreement and a questionnaire for you to complete which will give us all the detailed information we need to proceed on your behalf.
Step 1: Your Initial Consultation
An initial divorce complaint is prepared and filed in the County in which you reside. The complaint is then served on your spouse by certified U.S. mail. There are several issues that can be raised in this Complaint for your benefit, from “irreconcilable differences” commonly called a no-fault divorce, to equitable distribution which is claiming property division of your assets.
Step 2: Filing the Divorce Complaint
Step 3: Protecting Your Interests
In Pennsylvania, after a period of ninety (90) days from the date your spouse is served with the Complaint, your divorce can be final. During this time is when we will be working on a Marriage Settlement Agreement to equitably divide your property. Reaching an agreement on all the outstanding issues can save you money. The Marriage Settlement Agreement will address all the issues in your case and can save you from having the Court decide. The Marriage Settlement Agreement will then become part of your divorce decree signed by a Judge to insure all the terms can be enforced in the event one of the spouses is in default.
Our compassionate team is here to provide the support and guidance you need, no matter where you are in the legal process
